What Was It Like?
This event was designed to honor high school students who embody service over self – the mantra of the Rotary Club. The Weston/Wayland chapter needed the video to use for showing at future events as a way to help recruit more students for subsequent years. To this day, they use the video because it’s a great medium for getting people interested in the Rotary Club in general. Moreover, interested students see how exciting it is to apply for the award and to gain the honor and distinction of the event.
I set up the camera on a tripod at a slight angle to the speaker. The podium was a perfect piece of furniture where I could mount a wireless mic. I was able to get excellent video and professional-quality audio, and I even got a free dinner! (It was delicious.) Back at my home office, I color graded the video – industry jargon for adjusting color and exposure – to emphasize smooth and flattering skin tones. For this video I did add extra color depth which brought the natural colors present at the event. Notice that I also fine-tuned the exposure in the background so that the speakers were highlighted. My color adjustments led to a cinematic effect, which is my overall style when doing any video.
